Basic
Function:
Supports
the mission, objectives and goals of the Mount Saint John, Inc.(Agency/MSJ)
by developing and implementing the activities associated with fund raising and
revenue diversification. This position requires the ability to build and maintain
strong relationships with individual, foundation, corporate and other major
donors of the Agency, advertising and marketing consulting agencies and other
vendors, MSJ and MSJ Foundation Board members, volunteers, sponsors and colleagues.
The Development Director is committed to the mission and will be charged with
identifying effective fundraising techniques and marketing communications regarding
the Agency, its mission, events and other activities. The position will support
the Executive Director and the Chairpersons of the Revenue Committee of the
MSJ Board of Directors and will be an integrated member of the management team.
Important aspects of the job include developing and implementing a donor development
plan that enhances and continues the Agency's growth, through grant writing,
donor cultivation and focused campaigns.
Duties
and Responsibilities:
- Comprehensive
Donor Development Plan: Leads the development and implementation of a donor
development plan for the Agency, working together with the Executive Director,
Foundation and Revenue Committee Chairs, and the Revenue Committee. Plan addresses
annual giving, corporate sponsorships, major gifts, direct mail special events
and on-line fundraising, and establishes annual benchmarks for major gifts
and planned giving programs.
- Program
Diversification: Supports the Executive Director in obtaining public and private
funds to build the MSJ program capacity.
- Corporate
Sponsorships: Develop a plan, in conjunction with the Executive Director,
Foundation and Revenue Committee members that assesses Mount St. John's current
status and determines strategies and goals for a significant increase in corporate
sponsorships along with goals for annual increases.
- Major
Gifts: Develop a plan and lead implementation, including identification of
prospects, methods for cultivation and setting and meeting annual goals.
- Annual
Giving: Research and develop strategies to improve the acquisition and retention
of donors' tributes (honor/memorial gifts), direct mail or other appeals and
ways to move other event donors (luncheons, third-party events etc.) to become
annual donors at ever-increasing levels.
- Stewardship/Relationship
Building: Primary Responsibility for Donor Relationships. Build strong relationships
with the diocese, current supporting foundations and individual donors. Identify
and cultivate potential new foundation, individual and corporate sponsors.
Conduct research on current and potential individual, foundation and corporate
donors.
- Website managment
- Database
Management: Oversee the development and ongoing integrity and functionality
of the Donor Database.
- Works
closely with development staff of the Diocese of Norwich to ensure coordination
on fundraising activities and compliance with all Church policies/guidelines;
- Manages
within approved financial framework, meets deadlines and participates in Mount
St. John's planning and budgeting process.
- Goal
of increasing fundraising by $300,000, per year, net of expenses by year three.
- Performs
other job-related duties as assigned.
Preferred
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's
degree and a minimum of five years experience in fundraising roles.
- CFRE
preferred.
- A
proven track record in fundraising, grant writing and donor development.
- Must
have strong interpersonal skills; strong communications skills; able to build
and maintain relationships.
- Project
management and analysis skills required.
- Detailed
and deadline oriented with strong multi-tasking skills.
- Computer
skills with Microsoft Windows Office (including Excel and PowerPoint); Macromedia
web softward; ACT and other Fund Raising/Development database systems.
- Excellent
written skills; creativity and attention to detail.
